Fun Is In Bloom At The Upcoming Wistaria Festival

Wistaria Festival March 15thDo Not Miss This Wonder Of Nature Or Its Celebration

You do not have to travel far to see one of the Seven Wonders of the Horticultural World. The Sierra Madre Wistaria Vine holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. When it was measured in 1990, it covered over an acre, weighed 250 tons, and had 1.5 million blooms earning it the title of the world’s largest blooming plant.

This plant has grown from humble beginnings, starting out as a single gallon plant in a backyard. Although it has grown to become known as “The Monster” and “Jack’s Beanstalk,” it still has its houseplant roots (literally). The “Lavender Lady” now grows across two private backyards in Sierra Madre. Each year, those homeowners generously welcome many a stranger to come see their marvel. This year, the festival will fall on March 15th, meaning you have a one-day, free pass to see this gigantic wistaria plant while it is in full bloom.

There are more things to do at the Wistaria Festival than just see (and smell!) this marvelous plant, though. Montecito Music and Media is hosting live music on Sierra Madre Boulevard, and there will be vendors offering crafts, food, wistaria scented items, and more. To get from the main festival up to the vine, you can either take a shuttle (get your shuttle tickets here) or go on the brief, mile-long walk. Either way, you will not want to miss the beauty and family-friendly fun at this 98th annual event.
