Strawberry Festival is coming back to Garden Grove

strawberry festival The 56th annual Strawberry Festival is coming to Garden Grove May 23rd through 26th. The festival is full of fun and games for people of all ages. There are contests for all ages that come with the chance to win a trophy and possibly cash.

The Memorial Day Weekend festival features a parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. It includes floats, bands, equestrians, and characters such as Snoop from Knott’s Berry Farm. There are also many TV celebrities and local dignitaries that are celebrated in the parade.

Along with the Saturday parade, there are many contests for kids of all ages to enter into. The Berry Berry Beautiful Baby Pageant is open to kids from 3 months to less than 3 years old. Sign-ups start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and end 5 minutes before the contest starts at 11 a.m. There is also a Tiny Tots King and Queen contest for kids ages 3 to 6 on Friday the 23rd. For those who love to sing, there is the Strawberry Idol Karaoke Contest for anyone 16 years or older.

The Strawberry Festival was started in 1958 by the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce as a way to bring together the east and west sides of Garden Grove. When the Chamber decided not to hold the festival the following year, a group of citizens formed a non-profit organization, the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Association and moved the festival to Garden Grove Park. The festival is a charitable organization that has raised over $4.5 million in the past 50 years for non-profits in the area.
